The Ontario Chiropractic Association says that snow shoveling is a leading cause of back injury during the winter months.
Here are some tips to shovel without injury:
1. Start with a good warm-up and stretch
2. Get the right equipment. You want a light weight pusher type shovel.
3. Avoid lifting snow and twisting your back, push snow straight ahead of you
4. Stand with one leg in front of the other when shoveling and be sure to bend at the knees.
5. Push the snow rather than lift and throw it.
